It is a complex mechanism that mobilizes <strong>more than 30 muscles and 6 pairs of cranial nerves<\/strong> in less than 2 seconds, in perfect coordination.<\/pee>\n<h3>The 4 Phases of Swallowing<\/h3>\n<pee>Swallowing occurs in four successive phases:<\/pee>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Oral preparatory phase<\/strong>: grasping the food, chewing, forming the food bolus with saliva.
