Este grupo de iPad foi comparado a dois outros grupos: um grupo de placebo que se dedicava a tarefas passivas que exigiam poucos conhecimentos novos, e um grupo chamado social, que tinha interac\u00e7\u00f5es sociais regulares, mas sem aquisi\u00e7\u00e3o activa de compet\u00eancias. Os participantes receberam 5-6 semanas de treino cognitivo em mem\u00f3ria epis\u00f3dica, racioc\u00ednio indutivo ou aten\u00e7\u00e3o visual. O tipo de treino recebido foi determinado de forma aleat\u00f3ria. Os resultados do estudo indicam que cada um dos tr\u00eas tipos de forma\u00e7\u00e3o est\u00e1 associado a um melhor desempenho em testes que medem a fun\u00e7\u00e3o treinada, mas n\u00e3o em testes que medem a fun\u00e7\u00e3o n\u00e3o treinada (Ball et al, 2002). Os autores relatam que a melhoria do desempenho corresponde a uma redu\u00e7\u00e3o de 7 a 14 anos nos efeitos do envelhecimento, e a uma autonomia muito maior nas tarefas da vida quotidiana. O acompanhamento a longo prazo indica assim que este tipo de interven\u00e7\u00e3o cognitiva pode reduzir o decl\u00ednio cognitivo relacionado com a idade e retardar o decl\u00ednio
