After more than a year of using our Stim’Art program, we wanted to get feedback from “The House of Cotton,” a residential care home for elderly people. The establishment offers elderly people, depending on their life rhythms and wishes, tailored assistance for carrying out daily living activities.
How do you use the Stim’Art program within your Nursing home and with which audience?
We use the Stim’Art program version Scarlett in groups several times a week during our activities in the Nursing home. We play all the memory exercises. Our residents engage in the game, and some have even taken the initiative to be responsible for the tablet. For example, one of our residents sits with his peers, launches one of the memory games that they can all participate in together, and asks the question displayed on the screen. From that moment on, they consult each other and choose a common answer before the resident in question selects that shared answer.
Who uses these games within the Nursing home? Who are the people involved?
We, as psychologists, use the Stim’Art program as part of the cognitive stimulation for our residents. In parallel, the people in charge of activities use these memory games for the relaxation of the residents, for fun, and to create a good atmosphere.
What do your residents think of our memory games?
They love it! The tactile aspect of the tablet, the visuals, and the colors attract them a lot. The games work well, especially the Intruders! They exercise their memory in a playful way.
What have you been able to observe?
It’s hard to say in terms of improvement because we work with people affected by cognitive disorders. Nevertheless, I have noticed during these activities in the Nursing home that the residents are becoming increasingly comfortable with using the tablet. Particularly when our residents choose to use the tablet themselves during the sessions. This empowers them and allows them to be autonomous.
How do new technologies evolve your job on a daily basis?
It makes my life easier! Indeed, the tablet allows us to have a single support instead of multiple paper documents. Thanks to these technologies, I can develop several projects on the same support.
