Expressing an opinion: "I think that...", "In my opinion..."

Justifying: "because...", "since..."

Giving examples: "for example..."

Nuancing: "but...", "however..."

Concluding: "therefore...", "in conclusion..."

Development

4-5 years: expresses simple preferences. 6-8 years: gives reasons. 9-11 years: more elaborate arguments. 12+ years: structured argumentation, consideration of counter-arguments.
