Why early screening is essential

Early screening for cognitive disorders is a major public health challenge. In Europe, millions of people live with Alzheimer's disease and hundreds of thousands of new cases are diagnosed every year. Yet many patients are only detected at an advanced stage, when therapeutic options are more limited.

Cognitive tests play a central role in the care of these patients. They enable the assessment of cognitive functions — memory, language, praxis, attention, executive functions — and help distinguish normal ageing from pathological decline requiring specialised follow-up.

Traditionally carried out in paper format, these tests have several limitations: they are time-consuming to administer, prone to manual scoring errors, and difficult to track over time. To address these challenges, DYNSEO has developed E-TESTS, in collaboration with neuropsychologists and hospital geriatricians.

🔬 Key figures in cognitive screening

1 in 4 people over the age of 65 presents mild cognitive impairment. An early diagnosis enables the implementation of cognitive stimulation strategies, adaptation of the patient's environment and slowing down the progression of the condition. Studies show that regular cognitive stimulation following the detection of early disorders helps preserve independence and maintain quality of life.

E-TESTS was designed to simplify the administration of cognitive tests on a daily basis. With just a few clicks, the professional creates a patient file (trigram, date of birth, sex, sociocultural background), administers one or more tests and obtains automatically scored results. The goal: significant time savings during consultations, while ensuring the reliability of the data collected.

The application generates a complete cognitive report that is enriched with each session. The professional thus has a longitudinal view of each patient's cognitive evolution, facilitating clinical decisions and communication with multidisciplinary teams.

Available tests in E-TESTS

MMS (GRECO version)Orientation, memory, attention, calculation, language, constructive praxis10-15 min
AGGIR ScaleAssessment of autonomy (physical, mental, domestic, social activities)15-20 min

⚠️ Important: scope of use

E-TESTS is a screening and diagnostic support tool. The results generated by the application do not replace the clinical judgement of the healthcare professional. The interpretation of results must always be carried out within the framework of a comprehensive patient assessment, taking into account their medical, psychological and social context.

E-TESTS user workflow

The E-TESTS application was designed to integrate naturally into the healthcare professional's workflow. Here are the steps of a typical administration:

  1. Create the patient file — Enter the trigram, date of birth, sex and sociocultural background of the patient. Patient consent for data use is required.
  2. Select the test(s) — Choose from the 8 available tests according to your assessment objective: global screening (MMS), targeted memory assessment (5 Words, MIS), or executive function analysis (TMT, Clock).
  3. Administer the test on tablet — The patient takes the test directly on the tablet, guided by standardised instructions built into the application. The touch interface is intuitive and adapted for elderly users.
  4. View automatic results — Scoring is generated instantly at the end of the test. Scores are compared against reference norms based on age and sociocultural level.
  5. Track progress over time — The patient's cognitive report is enriched with each session. You have a complete history to objectify performance trends and adjust the care plan.

La Bille Qui Roule is far more than a simple game: it is a genuine functional rehabilitation tool. By using the tablet's gyroscope as a seesaw, the patient moves a ball on the screen and performs a series of targeted exercises. This approach uses the digital medium in an innovative way to work on gestural precision, bimanual coordination and muscle tone control.

The application is particularly suited to people with movement and coordination disorders: Parkinson's disease, apraxia, dyspraxia, post-stroke effects, multiple sclerosis. It can be used both during rehabilitation sessions and at home, between appointments with the healthcare professional.

🔬 Functions stimulated by La Bille Qui Roule

Each exercise in La Bille Qui Roule simultaneously engages several functions: fine motor skills (precision of gestures, dexterity of the small hand and finger muscles), hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness, sustained attention, working memory and executive functions (adaptation to situations, inhibition of parasitic movements). Regular training develops finger dexterity, wrist flexibility and postural control.

La Bille Qui Roule exercises

📏 Line tracking

Several paths are proposed. The patient tilts the tablet to guide the ball along the drawn course. This exercise trains movement precision and speed regulation: straight segments allow acceleration, turns require slowing down.

🎯 Ball in the centre

The objective is to keep the ball in the centre of the screen for a set time. This exercise engages postural control, movement stability and the ability to inhibit parasitic movements.

⭕ Circle tracking

The ball must stay inside a circle that moves across the screen. The circle changes direction randomly, stimulating attention, reflexes and motor adaptability.

🔵 Circle passing

Circles appear on the screen and the patient must guide the ball through them. This exercise trains motor planning, anticipation and visuospatial coordination.

🌊 Upstream challenge

Score as many goals as possible while avoiding obstacles and going against the current. A dynamic exercise combining strategy, reflexes and simultaneous processing of multiple information.

💨 Wind resistance

The patient must keep the ball in the central zone despite random gusts of wind. This exercise stimulates continuous movement adaptation and muscle tone modulation in the face of unpredictable disturbances.

Each exercise is fully configurable: ball speed, circle size, exercise duration, difficulty level. This customisation allows the work to be precisely adapted to each patient's profile, regardless of the stage of the condition or the therapeutic objective being pursued.

Clinical validation and research

DYNSEO is committed to a rigorous approach to scientific validation. Our tools are developed in collaboration with hospital teams and cognitive neuroscience researchers.

🏥 Collaboration with Broca Hospital (AP-HP, Paris)

As part of our research work with Broca Hospital, 4 tests were selected to form a mini screening battery for physicians. These tests cover all cognitive functions likely to be affected early in Alzheimer's disease — attention, executive functions, memory and orientation — in a minimum time of approximately 10 minutes. The battery includes: an orientation test, the MIS and MIS-D (memory), a digit-shape alternation test (executive functions) and a calculation test (concentration).

📱 Towards self-administration and telemedicine

Beyond time savings in consultations, DYNSEO is developing self-test batteries with a view to deploying telemedicine. The goal: improving disorder detection and referral to specialised consultations for the most isolated populations. Usability studies (SUS scale) conducted with physicians and psychologists show very encouraging results regarding the application's attractiveness and ease of use.
