Today it is Sarah's turn to share her vision of the retirement home of the future.

For me? The retirement home of the future would be a smart home with home automation, that would respond to and anticipate my every desire. I would go for a walk, and when I return, my space would be heated, my favorite scent would be diffused in all the rooms, and I would feel good. Retirement homes would be fully robotized: we would have simplified screens in each room to easily communicate with my loved ones, just by clicking on their photos, but also to contact each of the other residents of the retirement home. The kitchens would all be equipped with robots, and we would only need to order from the screens in our room the meal we choose, at any time of the day, and it would be ready very quickly. Retirement homes would be ecological and energy self-sufficient: solar panels would be installed on the roof, wastewater would be recycled, and waste would be recycled, and each of us would have the option to have our own private little garden. There would be plenty of things in my room that would make my life comfortable: I would also have a home cinema, which would allow me to display my memories on a big screen, the photos of my loved ones, the movies of my childhood. My clothes would adapt to my needs: if I am cold, they would warm me up, if I am too hot, they would cool me down. My two best friends would have their room right next to mine, and a simple door would allow us to meet and have tea together. I could organize my medical care according to my desires: I would choose the times of my treatments, my consultations, but also some wellness services would be offered in addition: massages and relaxing treatments. Thus, I would be happy, with my close friends by my side, without having to worry about daily life! La maison de retraite de Sarah-joe-edith-app-adulte-application-entrainement-cerebral-coach-jeux-cerebraux-jeu-cognitif-logique-culture-memoire-fun-dynseo-ludique-animation-personnes-agees-alz-alzheimer-activites-senior-activite-seniors-stimulation-tablette-smartphone

Technological innovations serving seniors

The retirement home of the future is not limited to home automation. Numerous technological innovations can improve the quality of life of residents. Here are some of the advancements that could transform these facilities:
  • Connected health applications: Allow real-time monitoring of residents' health parameters.
  • Virtual reality: Provide immersive experiences to stimulate memories and encourage social interactions.
  • Voice assistants: Help manage daily tasks and communicate with staff.
  • Safety sensors: Ensure the safety of residents by detecting falls or emergency situations.

The mental and physical well-being of residents

The retirement home of the future must also focus on the mental and physical well-being of residents. Several activities and amenities can contribute to this:
  • Creative workshops: Painting, music, and writing to stimulate personal expression.
  • Relaxation spaces: Therapeutic gardens and relaxation areas to promote serenity.
  • Exercise programs: Yoga, tai chi, and other physical activities adapted to the residents' capabilities.
  • Support groups: Provide a space to share experiences and emotions with other residents.

A personalized approach to care

Each resident has unique needs. The retirement home of the future should adopt a personalized approach to care:
  • Regular assessments: Conduct frequent health evaluations to adapt care to evolving needs.
  • Individualized care plans: Develop tailored care strategies, involving the resident and their family.
  • Continuing education for staff: Ensure that staff are trained in the latest practices in geriatric care.
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration: Work as a team with doctors, psychologists, and therapists for holistic care.

The challenges of ecology in retirement homes

The retirement homes of the future must also integrate ecological practices to reduce their carbon footprint. Here are some initiatives to consider:
  • Renewable energy: Use solar panels and wind turbines to power the facilities.
  • Sustainable food: Offer meals made from organic and local products for a healthy diet.
  • Waste management: Implement composting and recycling systems to minimize waste.
  • Resident awareness: Educate residents on the importance of sustainability and involve them in ecological projects.
