Diaphragmatic breathing

📖 What is it?

Breathing with the tummy (not the shoulders) to have enough air to speak calmly.

🔧 How to do it?

  • Place your hand on your tummy
  • Breathe in through your nose: your tummy rises
  • Breathe out through your mouth: your tummy falls
  • Speak on the out-breath

⏰ When to use it?

Before starting to speak, especially if you feel stressed.

🎵
Soft onset

📖 What is it?

Starting to speak gently, without forcing, as if humming the beginning of the word.

🔧 How to do it?

  • Relax your throat and mouth
  • Start the sound very gently
  • Gradually increase the volume
  • Glide into the rest of the word

⏰ When to use it?

For words starting with a vowel or a difficult sound.

〰️
Prolongation

📖 What is it?

Stretching sounds slightly to speak more fluently, as if singing.

🔧 How to do it?

  • Choose a word to say
  • Stretch the first sound: "sssun"
  • Link the syllables together
  • Keep a steady rhythm

⏰ When to use it?

When you feel you are going to block on a word.

⏸️
Pause and breathe

📖 What is it?

Stopping regularly to catch your breath and stay in control.

🔧 How to do it?

  • Speak in small groups of words
  • Pause at each comma or full stop
  • Breathe in during the pause
  • Continue calmly

⏰ When to use it?

During long sentences or when you run out of breath.

🧘
Muscle relaxation

📖 What is it?

Relaxing the muscles of the mouth, throat and shoulders before speaking.

🔧 How to do it?

  • Let your shoulders drop
  • Relax your jaw (mouth slightly open)
  • Release your tongue at the bottom of your mouth
  • Yawn a few times

⏰ When to use it?

Before a stressful situation (presentation, phone call...).

👀
Light eye contact

📖 What is it?

Maintaining natural eye contact to stay connected and confident.

🔧 How to do it?

  • Look at the person from time to time
  • You can look at their forehead or nose
  • Look away sometimes — that is fine
  • Stay relaxed, no fixed stare

⏰ When to use it?

In all conversations — it helps you feel confident.
