What is working memory?
Working memory is the ability to hold information in mind for a few seconds to manipulate it mentally. For example: remembering a number, doing a calculation without paper, following a multi-step instruction, or adapting an action based on new information.
What this test explores
Information Retention
Retain numbers, letters, or words for a few moments to answer a question.
Mental Manipulation
Adapt, reverse, or update information in mind (counting down, applying a rule…).
Focused Attention
Stay focused on the instruction and resist the urge to drift into other thoughts.
Cognitive Flexibility
Change strategy or perspective when the instruction or information evolves.
Interpreting Your Score
High Score (80–100): your working memory is well engaged in these tasks. You can hold multiple pieces of information in mind and manipulate them mentally.
Intermediate Score (50–79): you succeed in some exercises, but some require a lot of effort. Fatigue, stress, or lack of practice may play a role.
Lower Score (< 50): these working memory instructions may be difficult to maintain. This does not mean you have a disorder, but that this area could benefit from training.
And After?
This test does not replace a neuropsychological evaluation or medical advice. If you have questions about your attention or memory in daily life, feel free to discuss them with a healthcare professional. DYNSEO applications (COCO, JOE, EDITH) offer fun exercises to gradually stimulate working memory in children, adults, and seniors.
