🚨 My Warning Signals

Recognizing when I'm losing control

📌 How do I use this tool?

This chart helps children recognize signals that they are beginning to lose control. The earlier you spot the signals, the easier it is to calm down! Like a traffic light: green = all's well, red = stop, I need help.

🚦 The 4 alert levels

😊 GREEN

✅ All's well!

😌 I am calm 🎯 I concentrate 😄 I feel good 🤝 I can listen
👍 What I do: I carry on as normal
😐 YELLOW

⚠️ Watch out, it's starting...

🦵 I fidget 😤 I sigh 🙄 I'm distracted 😒 I'm bored
🛠️ What I do: I breathe deeply, I move a little, I change position.
😣 ORANGE

🔶 It's going up, I have to act!

💢 Heart beating fast 😤 Rapid breathing ✊ Clenched fists 🗣️ Rising voice 😠 I get angry
🆘 What I do: I ask for a break, I use my calm technique, I isolate myself for a moment
😡 RED

🛑 STOP! I've lost control

😭 I scream or cry 💥 I hit/throw 🏃 I run away 😤 I say mean things
🚨 What I do: I need help from an adult. I go to my quiet corner. I don't make decisions now.

💡 Tips for speech therapists and parents

  • Help children identify their own body signals
  • Use this tool BEFORE difficult situations to prepare for them.
  • Praise the child when he recognizes his level of alertness
  • Create an action plan for each level together
  • The aim is to intervene at YELLOW, not to wait for RED
