Diabetes and Cognitive Impairment: Understanding the Connection and Adapting Care Practices

About Course

This 4-hour training is aimed at professionals working in institutions or at home (care assistants, life assistants, nurses, activity leaders, companions in senior residences or home care services). The link between diabetes and the brain is poorly understood but significant: type 2 diabetes doubles the risk of dementia, accelerates cognitive decline, and generates specific cognitive disorders often confused with normal aging. Conversely, cognitive disorders considerably complicate diabetes management: forgetting medications, erratic eating habits, inability to recognize hypoglycemia. This training provides professionals with a solid understanding of this dual interaction and concrete strategies to safely support a diabetic person with cognitive disorders. By the end of the training, each participant will be able to adapt care, prevent complications, and effectively coordinate with the healthcare team.
